About this unit
A wheel flange loosener for freeing a wheel that has corroded onto the hub, the job that defeats a hammer and risks damaging the wheel. The body is drop forged in a double T section, which is where the strength comes from: forging aligns the grain along the load path and the double T puts material where the bending stress is highest, so the tool takes a heavy pull without springing. It is made from carbon steel or chrome vanadium steel, and is supplied with or without a plastic facing. The plastic version is the one to specify where alloy wheels are being worked and contact marking matters.
