Supplying Ethiopia
Almost all Ethiopian import traffic moves through the Port of Djibouti, and containerised cargo is not usually cleared at the coast: it moves inland to the Modjo dry port, about 75 km from Addis Ababa, which handles the large majority of Ethiopia's imports. That extra leg is a real scheduling fact on a plant-scale order, and we build it into the lead time rather than leaving it to be discovered.
Ethiopia's conformity regime is narrower than its neighbours' and that is useful to know. The Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise operates pre-export verification against a specific, closed list of products - among them generators, induction motors, transformers, pumps, circuit breakers and agricultural tractors. Equipment outside that list is not covered. So the first question on an Ethiopian enquiry is the HS code, not the machine name: it decides whether a certificate is needed at all.
Federal tenders are published through the Public Procurement and Property Authority on its electronic procurement system. Food processing plant, grain and oilseed equipment and construction machinery are the divisions we quote most often into Ethiopian schedules.
