Tema is the container gateway for Ghana and handles the overwhelming majority of national container traffic; Takoradi is marginal by comparison. Unless your project sits in the Western Region, machinery is quoted CIF Tema.

Ghana's conformity programme changed in 2026 and the detail matters. The current scheme is EasyPASS, run by the Ghana Standards Authority - not the older G-CAP arrangement, which was postponed years ago and still appears on out-of-date pages. Machinery and mechanical appliances under HS chapters 84 and 85 are inside its scope, and verification is carried out in the country of export before shipment. From 1 July 2026 applications go directly to the GSA rather than through a third-party inspection agent. The programme is new enough that its exact mandatory status has been publicly clarified more than once, so we confirm the current position with the GSA route at quotation rather than relying on what was true last year.

Tenders are published through the Public Procurement Authority on GHANEPS. Plant and machinery imported under a GIPC registration can carry duty relief, which is worth checking before the proforma is issued.
