Refrigeration and Cold Storage Equipments in Ghana
Conformity is settled before the container is loaded
Ghana is one of the markets in this region where verification genuinely happens upstream. Under the EasyPASS pre-shipment verification of conformity arrangement administered by the Ghana Standards Authority, the assessment is carried out at origin and the consignment travels with the resulting document. For the exporter that changes the sequence of work: the technical file, nameplate data and electrical details have to be complete and consistent while the equipment is still in the factory, because the verification is done against them. Discrepancies between what the invoice says, what the nameplate says and what was actually built are the usual reason a file stalls, so the model designation, rated power and voltage recorded on the order should be the designation and figures that appear on the machine.
Buyers should confirm how the arrangement applies to the particular tariff line and route being used at the time of ordering, and build the verification step into the shipping timetable rather than treating it as paperwork that can follow the goods.
What this division actually covers
Much of the Ghanaian demand expressed online is for walk-in cold rooms. It is worth being plain that the equipment grouped here is cabinet and counter refrigeration — items such as a Kitchen Freezer Upright Freezer or a Workbench Refrigerator, defined by volume, dimensions, material and temperature band — rather than panel-built walk-in storage, which is a different enquiry with a different specification process. Sizing starts from the volume to be held and the footprint available in the kitchen or shop, not from a price point.
Electrical supply and the compressor rating
Ghana uses 230 V at 50 Hz with Type G sockets, which simplifies termination for smaller cabinets, though anything drawing heavily is better handled as a fixed connection by the installing contractor. The figure that matters technically is frequency: compressor performance is rated at a stated supply frequency, so the frequency must be specified rather than assumed, and the refrigerant to be charged should be nominated in the contract. Catalogue temperatures assume an ambient and a door-opening pattern; state the conditions the unit will work in and ask what pull-down to expect under them.
Arrival and public contracts
Tema is the port of entry for containerised equipment, and documentation is in English. Public sector purchases are regulated by the Public Procurement Authority and advertised through GHANEPS; the bid document defines the technical requirement, and anything not written into it will not be read into it later. Warranty, installation and operator training depend on the terms of the supply contract. Spares and after-sales servicing are outside the scope of what is offered.
