About this unit
A combined whistle and compass on a detachable snap-lock lanyard, carried as personal field equipment. Putting the two together is sound in practice: both are items a soldier or officer needs to reach immediately and without looking, and both are easily lost as separate objects. The snap-lock lanyard is the detail that decides whether the unit survives in service, since it has to hold under load yet release when it has to rather than becoming a snag hazard.
