When a Pneumatic Tyre Mechanical Driven Road Roller makes sense

A mechanical driven roller has fewer hoses, pumps and seals. Local shops can often fix the clutch and gears with common tools and parts. For fleets that work far from a dealer, or in hot and dusty places, that is often the main reason to buy one.

Typical set-up

Several figures in the specification table below are typical for tyre rollers in general. We confirm them per order, but they are usually:

• Mechanism: multiple overlapping rubber-tyred wheels
• Build: reinforced rubber tyres, steel frame
• Weight band: 9-25 tonne operating weight
• Operation: pneumatic

The rubber tyres flex and knead the layer, so fine material settles into gaps a steel drum would ride over. Crews use this for finish rolling of asphalt, sealing chip layers and firming gravel roads.

Picking a weight band

Choose the 2280 mm light band for streets and thin layers. Choose one of the 2790 mm bands for main roads, thick base layers and large yards at ports. Ballast lets you raise or lower the working weight within each band.
