Why frequency and amplitude control matters
A vibratory roller packs material by shaking the drum while it rolls. High amplitude with low frequency drives the force deep into thick lifts of clay or rockfill. Low amplitude with high frequency suits thin layers of crushed stone, where too much force would loosen the top.
With both settings, one machine can do most layers of the same job. On a new road, the driver can pack the fill, then the sub-grade, then the base course, all with the same roller.
