Food Processing Equipment Line Machines Plants in Sri Lanka
This division runs to 258 machines, and Sri Lankan enquiries settle mostly at the coding and marking end of it: inkjet batch coding machines, on-line non-contact large character printers, character inkjet printers and handheld non-contact units for secondary packaging.
Splitting a line across containers
Where a packing hall is being equipped rather than a single machine bought, the consignment will not travel as one unit, and a classification question follows. Sri Lanka Customs may treat goods presented disassembled or unassembled as the assembled article where the Director-General is satisfied with the reason for presenting them that way. That is a discretion rather than an entitlement, so the reason belongs in the packing list and in the broker's brief before the vessel arrives. Where parts of a line clear on separate entries, agree the split at order stage so the invoicing matches how the goods move.
Landed cost is not the duty line
The tax stack cascades. Customs Import Duty, EDB CESS, PAL, Excise, Surcharge, SSCL and VAT — the last at 18 per cent since 1 January 2024, raised from 15 — are not alternatives but layers, and the final two are assessed on CIF plus ten per cent of CIF plus duty plus CESS plus PAL plus excise plus surcharge. The consequence for a buyer building a capital budget is that a duty-free tariff line still arrives carrying substantial cost, and a quotation mentioning duty alone understates the bill materially. Ask the buyer's broker to model the whole stack against the specific heading before the budget is signed off.
Supply and connection
The mains are 230 V at 50 Hz, so motor, drive and control selection for a coding line is unchanged from a standard Chinese build. Outlets are a narrower question than elsewhere in the region: a government decision in 2016 standardised on Type G, the British 13 A pattern, and sale of non-compliant sockets was banned from August 2018, replacing the Types D and M previously in use. For printers mounted on a conveyor, confirm whether the supply point is a 13 A outlet or a fixed connection on the line's own panel.
Certification and procurement
Nothing in the compulsory inspection regime applies to this equipment: the designated list is built from food products, construction materials and consumer electricals, and from Chapter 85 it reaches batteries, protective devices, switches, 13 A plugs and sockets, lamps, cables, kettles and hot plates — not industrial coding or packaging machinery. There is accordingly no pre-export certificate to obtain for these items. Commercial documentation is in English. Colombo is effectively the only container gateway, and state buyers tender under the Procurement Guidelines and Manual 2024, with PROMISe as the national e-procurement platform though not every notice reaches it. Installation and training, and the extent of warranty, are contract matters; spares supply and servicing are not activities we undertake.
