Refrigeration and Cold Storage Equipments in Namibia
There is no inspection step to lean on
Namibia differs from several of its neighbours in having no pre-shipment conformity assessment programme at all. Nothing is examined in China and certified before loading, and no agency issues a pre-export document against the consignment. Compulsory standards are declared by the Namibian Standards Institution product by product, so the live question is not what a programme demands but whether a compulsory standard has in fact been declared for the item being bought. That is worth confirming for the specific product before an order is placed.
The consequence is commercial rather than bureaucratic. With no third party checking the equipment between the factory floor and Walvis Bay, the purchase order carries the whole burden of definition. Cabinet dimensions, internal volume, the temperature band the unit is expected to hold, the material of the body and shelving, rated power, power consumption and the refrigeration model fitted all belong in the contract in writing. A Food Showcase Freezer and Chiller and Cooler ordered on a photograph and a price will be built to the factory's assumption, not the buyer's.
Frequency, refrigerant and real conditions
Namibian mains supply is 230 V at 50 Hz. Socket patterns are mixed — Types M, N and C are all encountered — which is reason enough to confirm how each machine is to be terminated instead of assuming a fitted lead will suit the premises. More important for this division, the capacity a compressor is rated at belongs to the supply frequency it was rated on; a machine built for 60 Hz does not carry its figures over to a 50 Hz grid, so frequency goes on the order rather than being inferred. The refrigerant to be charged should be named in the specification and agreed, not left to the factory. Temperature is likewise a figure reached against an assumed ambient and an assumed duty, so state the room conditions the cabinet will actually work in and the pull-down expected of it. A Stainless Steel Ice Cream Machine standing in an unconditioned retail space is not working to the same brief as one in an air-conditioned kitchen.
Arrival and public buyers
Walvis Bay is the container gateway; Lüderitz is the second coastal option and worth pricing if the destination sits in the south. Documentation is in English throughout. Government and parastatal requirements above threshold go through the Central Procurement Board of Namibia, whose bid documents normally fix the technical schedule, so read the CPBN specification before quoting rather than mapping a catalogue onto it afterwards. Warranty, installation and operator training are matters for the supply contract in each case; this is a manufacturing and export operation and does not run a spares or after-sales service arm.
