How pad printing on a pipe works
The message is etched into a metal plate. A closed magnetic ink cup holds thick, fast-drying paste ink and moves up and down the plate, leaving ink only in the etched parts while its knife edge wipes off the rest. A soft silicone pad then picks up the ink and presses it onto the pipe. The maker says the print quality matches or beats screen printing.
