What a Rotary Drilling Machine is used for

Bored piles carry heavy loads down to firm soil or rock. Contractors use a rotary rig for bridge piers, high-rise foundations, retaining walls and wharf structures. The rig drills, lifts the spoil out in the bucket, and leaves a clean hole ready for the steel cage and concrete.

Rotary drilling is quiet and low in vibration compared with driven piles. That makes it a common choice in towns, next to older buildings and near live roads.

• Controls: hydraulic rotary table, operator cab controlled
• Drive: diesel engine, kelly bar rotary drive, hydraulic winch

• Size: 1.5-3.5 m drilling diameter, up to 100 m depth

What we ask before quoting

Buyers usually ask us about torque, kelly bar type and tool sets. We need a few facts first to size the rig well:

• Pile diameter and depth from your design drawings
• Soil log, including any rock layers or loose sand
• Whether casing or drilling mud is needed to hold the hole open
• Access at site, since a long mast needs room to rig up

We recommend sending your borehole data with your first message. It lets us suggest the right tools, such as rock augers or core barrels, along with the rig.
