Swamp work punishes the final drive. On a low-drive machine the sprocket sits in wet silt all day, and mud packs into the teeth and seals. Raising the sprocket above the track keeps it out of the worst of the muck, while the wide shoes spread the heavy 26100 kgs over a larger footprint so the dozer floats instead of sinking.
The blade is smaller than on our standard high-drive dozer. That is a deliberate trade: on soft ground, a lighter load per pass keeps the tracks from digging in.
