How trace detection works on this unit
The operator wipes a surface with a sample ticket and puts the ticket in the slot. The unit then tests the sample in an ion trap, and the listed model is said to give a result in under ten seconds. If it finds a threat, a sound and a light warn the operator, who can then act on the spot.
MS gives a more exact chemical match than ion mobility spectrometry (IMS), the method used in many older trace units. That can mean fewer false alarms in busy sites, though results still depend on how well staff take samples.
