Fire fighting equipment on tender: the standard in the schedule decides everything

Suppression and rescue equipment is bought against a cited standard. Quote the standard, not the catalogue.

Fire fighting equipment is almost never bought from a catalogue. It is bought by a municipality, an industrial site or a civil defence authority against a schedule that cites a standard, and the standard governs the specification more completely than in any other division we supply.

The standard is the specification

Where a schedule names a standard, that is the document the equipment is judged against at inspection - not the brochure, not the quotation, and not what a supplier says is equivalent. Two consequences follow, and both are worth stating plainly before an order:

  • A supplier who offers equipment to a similar standard is offering something that may fail inspection. If we cannot meet the cited standard we say so rather than proposing an alternative quietly.
  • Where a schedule cites no standard at all, that is a question to resolve before bidding, not after. An unspecified schedule is usually an invitation for the cheapest bid to set the standard, and that rarely survives commissioning.

Conditions change the equipment

Two site facts matter more than catalogue figures suggest. Ambient temperature affects both equipment and stored media, and equipment specified for a temperate climate is not automatically right for the markets we ship into. Water supply - pressure, availability and whether it is mains or stored - decides what suppression approach is even viable. Tell us both and the quotation is against your site rather than a generic one.

Buying from China for this division

This is the division where the supplier question is most about documentation. What to ask for:

  • Test reports against the cited standard, from a named laboratory, before the order rather than with the shipment.
  • A written statement of compliance line by line against the schedule.
  • Clarity on what is certified and what is merely manufactured to a specification. They are not the same claim.

Equipment in this division also sits inside destination conformity schemes more often than general machinery does. Several African markets verify before shipment, so certification work happens in China during manufacture.

Related divisions

Detection is quoted separately from suppression - see fire detection systems - and schedules for industrial sites frequently combine both with traffic and site safety equipment. Where a single contract covers all three, quoting them together usually improves the freight.

Send the schedule and the standard it cites. Request a quotation, or see the fire fighting range.
