Mozambique combines substantial agricultural and marine resources with a long coastline and three ports that serve not only its own economy but a large landlocked hinterland. That dual role matters commercially: a proportion of what we ship to Beira or Nacala is bound for Malawi, Zambia or Zimbabwe, and the specification and documentation depend on where the plant will finally operate rather than where it lands.

What Mozambican buyers specify

Agro processing leads. We supply maize and grain milling plant, cassava processing, oil expelling for sesame, groundnut and sunflower, and rice milling for the growing regions. Cashew processing serves a traditional crop that Mozambique has worked to process domestically rather than export raw.

Fish and seafood processing serves a long and productive coast, particularly for prawns and shrimp, along with the freezing and cold chain the export trade requires. Sugar processing serves an established plantation sector. Beyond those, we ship bakery equipment, beverage lines, dairy plant, and cold storage and refrigeration more broadly. Construction machinery, drilling and bore well equipment serve mining and infrastructure work, and solar system products and water pumping sell strongly against limited rural grid coverage.

Shipping to Mozambique and the interior

Consignments route through Maputo for the south, Beira for the centre, or Nacala for the north. Nacala is a deep-water port with a rail corridor into Malawi and beyond, which can be a real advantage for heavy plant that would otherwise need road haulage. Beira serves the corridor to Zimbabwe and Zambia and is often the shortest route to Harare. Maputo is closest to South Africa and suits the southern provinces.

Choosing the correct port matters more here than in most markets, because inland haulage across Mozambique's length is expensive and slow. Tell us the province, and if the equipment is bound for a neighbouring country tell us that too so the transit documentation is prepared alongside the import paperwork.

Built for local conditions

Mozambique runs on 220 V at 50 Hz, with Type C, F and M sockets encountered depending on the age and origin of the installation. Equipment is built to the actual site supply at the order stage, which is worth confirming rather than assuming given the variety in use.

Grid coverage outside the main centres is limited, so plant destined for district processing sites is specified with generator or solar operation in mind and starting loads staged accordingly. The climate is hot and humid along the coast with a pronounced wet season, so enclosures, electrical equipment and material grades are specified for those conditions. Manuals and control labelling can be supplied in Portuguese or English — Portuguese is the official language and normally expected for operator-facing controls.

Cyclone season and delivery timing

The Mozambique coast is exposed to tropical cyclones, principally between November and April, and the risk is real rather than theoretical — ports close, roads flood and inland routes become impassable. Where a delivery is tied to a harvest, a production season or a construction handover, we plan routing and lead time around that rather than quoting a best-case transit. If your commissioning window is fixed, tell us early and we will schedule to land the equipment outside the worst of the season.

Tender, cooperative and donor supply

Public tenders, agricultural cooperatives and donor-funded programmes account for a substantial share of machinery purchasing. We supply technical specifications and compliance documentation in Portuguese or English as required, along with manufacturer authorisation letters where a bid asks for them, and we consolidate group orders into single shipments to reduce landed cost per unit.

Getting a price

Send the crop or product, the output you need per hour or per day, the province and port, and the power available at the site. If the equipment is moving on to a neighbouring country, say which. You get a machine list, a delivered price and a lead time in writing.

Serving the landlocked hinterland

If you are buying for a site in Malawi, Zambia or Zimbabwe rather than for Mozambique itself, say so when you enquire. The port is only the first leg. Electrical standards differ across those markets, documentation language differs, transit paperwork is required in addition to import paperwork, and crating for a long road or rail journey is not the same as crating for a short haul from the quay. We build for the destination rather than for the port of entry, provided we know which is which.
