Bangladesh is one of our strongest export markets, and the demand profile is unusual: alongside the food processing and agricultural machinery we ship across South Asia, a large volume of our Bangladesh business is army and security equipment. Both go through the same route and the same documentation, but they are quoted and specified very differently.

What Bangladeshi buyers specify

On the defence and security side we supply army uniforms and field clothing, combat and jungle boots, ballistic helmets, body armour and tactical vests, anti-riot equipment and field tents. These are ordered in bulk rather than in single units, usually against a written specification issued by the procuring body, and the specification governs everything — material weight, protection level, sizing curve and marking.

On the industrial side, Bangladesh buys food processing plant for rice milling, edible oil refining, bakery and snack production, dairy and juice lines, and the packaging equipment that finishes them. The agro sector takes threshers, dryers, grading and storage equipment. There is steady demand for cold storage and refrigeration plant, driven by fisheries and the shrimp export trade, and for water treatment equipment serving both municipal and industrial users.

Shipping to Bangladesh

Consignments route principally through Chattogram, which handles the overwhelming majority of the country's containerised imports, with Mongla serving the south-west and Payra taking a growing share of bulk and project cargo. Inland haulage to Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and the export processing zones is routine, though lead times through Chattogram should be planned generously during peak periods.

Bangladeshi imports are normally handled on a letter of credit, and the documentation has to match the LC terms exactly — a mismatch between the invoice description and the LC wording will hold a consignment at the bank rather than at the port. We prepare the packing list, commercial invoice, certificate of origin and any inspection certificates to align with the LC as issued, and we will work to the incoterms your bank requires.

Built for local conditions

Bangladesh runs on 220 V at 50 Hz, with Type C, D and G sockets in general use. Equipment is built to that supply at the order stage. Grid stability varies considerably outside the main industrial belts, so for plant going to rural districts we specify with generator operation in mind and stage the starting loads accordingly. Manuals and control panel labelling can be supplied in English or Bengali.

Tender and bulk supply

Public procurement is central to this market. We supply against tenders issued by defence and paramilitary procurement bodies, ministries and directorates, and NGO and development programmes operating in the country. For each we provide technical specifications and compliance documentation in the requested format, along with the manufacturer authorisation letters that public tenders in Bangladesh routinely require from a bidder.

Where a bid covers several equipment categories we consolidate the award into a single shipment, which reduces landed cost per unit and simplifies clearance against one set of documents.

Getting a price

For industrial plant, send the product and the output per hour, and tell us whether the destination is Chattogram or Mongla. For uniform, footwear or protective equipment, send the specification you are bidding against together with the quantity and the sizing curve. Either way you get a costed, documented response with a lead time in writing, in the format your tender or your bank requires.

Installation and support in Bangladesh

For processing lines we commission on site and train operators before handover. Bangladesh has a deep pool of industrial maintenance skill, particularly around Dhaka, Gazipur and Chattogram, so we aim to leave a plant that local technicians can service rather than one that requires a visit from abroad for routine work. Wear parts are identified with their specifications at handover so they can be reordered or matched locally.

Economic zones and industrial estates

A significant share of new processing capacity in Bangladesh is being built inside economic zones and industrial parks rather than on standalone sites. Those developments have their own approval processes, utility connections and, in some cases, import concessions. If your project sits inside a zone, tell us at the enquiry stage — the documentation set differs, the electrical connection may be specified differently, and the timing of delivery usually has to align with the zone's own construction schedule rather than with your own.
